One Day in Hanoi

If you have only one day to spend in Hanoi, Hoan Kiem District is where you can explore most of the day. Read through this One day Itinerary and click on page Hoan Kiem Dist above to read more about the sightseeing places and restaurants suggested.

  • 8:00 AM: Have breakfast at Phở Thìn #61 Dinh Tien Hoang. Fill your tummy with a genuine bowl of Vietnamese Phở bò (Rice noodles with beef) in the morning. 

  • 8:30 AM: Walk through Dinh Tien Hoang, Hang Bai, and turn to Ly Thuong Kiet. Stop at #36 Ly Thuong Kiet and walk inside Vietnamese Women’s Museum.
  • 10:15 AM: Leave Ly Thuong Kiet and Head to Ngoc Son Temple and Hoan Kiem Lake.
  • 11:15 AM: Start moving to Dong Xuan Market, discover what a public market selling almost everything in Vietnam is like and have fun with haggling.
  • 12:30 PM: Move to #1 Hang Manh to have lunch at the best-street-food-place-for Bun cha (a plate of rice noodles and grilled pork along with a bowl of dipping sauce).
  • 1:45 PM: Stand up, go for a walk through Hang Quat, Hang Bac and get to Ma May.  Stop by #87 Ma May (the Ancient House that is deemed as the cultural center of Old Quarter in particular and Hanoi in general).
  • 3:00 PM: Take a taxi to #58 Quoc Tu Giam to visit the Temple of Literature.
  •  5:00 PM: Take a taxi or have a more than 20-minute-walk back to Hoan Kiem District and go to St. Joseph’s Cathedral #40 Nha Tho.
  • 5:45 PM: Try eating Vietnamese snacks and fried pies at #52 Ly Quoc Su (Quán Gốc Đa) that is only a few steps from the Cathedral.
  • 6:05 PM: Go to Water Puppet Theater at #57B Dinh Tien Hoang and watch the water puppet show at 18:30 PM.
  • 7:05 PM: About 10 minute walk to get to #14 Cha ca to dine on Chả cã Lã vọng.
  • 8:45 PM: Walk around Old Quarter and drink a couple of beers in Ta Hien street (lively night street in Hanoi). (Visit Night Market if you travel in Hanoi on Friday, Saturday or Sunday)
