Saigon offers many different places where people can grab a cup of coffee and have the most exciting experience beyond that.

Contents

1. PET CAFÉS

Pet café is a theme café whose attractions are cats, dogs or any other pets that can be watched and played with. Having long been popular in Asian countries, these unique coffee shops are always considered favorite destinations of animal lovers and were introduced to Vietnam just a few years ago, creating a sweeping craze among the teenagers. Enjoying the drinks while stroking these lovable pets after hours of work and study is definitely the best thing ever.

ICHI Cat Café

Highlighted in the center of Saigon with the gentle white color, ICHI Cat Cafe is known as the first ‘miniature paradise’ of numerous mischievous yet adorable noble cats, namely Maine Coon, Bengal, American Shorthair. Sadly, only children above 7 are allowed to enter the café, you cannot bring your own cats here and there are also some other rules that you have to follow (Read here: http://www.ichicatcafe.com/ichi-rules.html ).

2. FISH MASSAGE CAFÉS

Fish massage – dipping your hands or feet in the aquarium to let hundreds of fish leech dead cells on the skin is not strange at all, and so is drinking coffee. Yet, the combination of these two activities has created a new wind in Saigon café style called: fish massage café. This massage fish aka doctor fish is Garra Rufa, originated from Turkey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_fish). After choosing drinks and the table that suits with the number of people (single, double or a group), customers will have their feet washed to clean dust and chemicals and wound covered (if there is one). At first, when the small and soft mouth of the fish touch your legs, the tickling electric-shock-liked feeling might make you startled and hastily pull back your legs, causing the water to splash but soon you will familiarize with it and enjoy it. And it is also advisable that you wear shorts or capri pants for convenience.

Black House Coffee

There are separate zones for those who want to enjoy the drinks with or without fish massage. You can also try fishing for free here.

As the digital age taking over interaction, communication, and connection among people, board games appear to be a haven away from the distractions of everyday grind and help people start to get to know each other very well. On the other hand, the food and drinks will keep you refreshed while playing. And that is how board game cafés were established.

Board Game Station

Inaugurated on International Board Game Day 30/04/2015, Board Game Station has proved to be a popular location among the Saigonese and especially many foreigners. That is why you will hear more English-speaking friends here and it is a great way to practice English if it is not your native language. There are over 60 game titles to choose from. For instance, skilled gamers can play complex games such as Star Wars, Dead of Winter, Castle Panic, Forbidden Stars, 7 Wonders; families or groups can play Monopoly Game of Thrones, Munchkin, Scrabble and children can play Sushi Go!, Spot it, Hive Carbon, Banana, etc. And don’t worry whether you are new or familiar to board games, there are always on-site leaders to assist you when needed. Another special feature of the café is that all board games here are authentic and imported from the US. Therefore, gamers will have the opportunity to access world-class board games, hence forming the consciousness and habits of playing copyrighted games. The menu is decent, with real fruit drinks and smoothies.

TableTop Café

TableTop Café is a heaven for experienced gaming enthusiasts as most of the board games here are top-tiered like Kemet, Through The Ages, Agricola, Caverna or Cydades Titans. Moreover, they have a large menu with many food and drink options to choose from, but you can still bring your own dishes (and pay a fee of 20,000VND if you don’t order their food or drinks). The seats are plenty but not so comfortable if you were to spend over 2 hours there as they are made of wood. Cushions should be put on them for a better experience. And you should reserve in advance since the place gets crowded quickly, especially at weekends.

I love the idea that coffee is no longer just a drink, it’s an experience! Thanks for sharing

  2. I have heard about Pet cafes sometime ago but you have provided a whole new area of cafes to me. I specially love the garden one and the homestay one they’re so nice. Even the shopping one is awesome – who doesn’t want to enjoy a cuppa while shopping!!

  3. Wow, what an expansive and thorough list!! I want to go to ALL of these. I’ve been to several game board cafes personally and had a blast. The pet cafes sound suuuuuuper fun. The amphibean one would be quite an experience.

  4. I think board game cafes are so much fun! We have a couple of them here in Toronto. I would love to go to a pet cafe some time since I love animals and don’t have any pets of my own.

  5. Pet cafes sound like such a peaceful and relaxing place to visit, especially when traveling and having to be away from my own fur babies. I’d also want to visit Ciao Café for the ice cream! Yum!

  6. I am astonished at the pet cafes! I have seen board game breweries and coffee shops in bookstores but never have I seen a cafe that has animals in it! This is a great idea and I wish we had a puppy cafe near me…I would be there all day,

  7. I love coffee shops, and these definitely take them to a whole new level! I’m allergic to cats so I’d have to skip that one but I think I could happily spend the whole day with the dogs! The lizard? Not so sure about that!

  8. Pet cafes sound like an interesting idea. I’m kind of a germ-o-phobe, so my first thought was, “Yuck! There’d be pet hair in the food!” Somehow, I’m sure owners have figured out ways to keep that from happening, and I’m sure the visitors find it very relaxing. What a fun idea.

  9. Pets coffee shops are the best. We used to have a cat cafe where I live but the state is so stupid that they shut it down 🙁 But whenever I go to Budapest I stop to their Cat Cafe, I just love it. Animals are the best thing in this world. (I love animals more than humans)

  10. Very unique coffee shops indeed! I think the one that stuck out to me the most was the pet coffee shop! I wonder if anyone ever gets cat hair in their coffee!!

  11. Wow these all sound so cool and amazing! I’m sad I didn’t read the post before I went to Saigon – next time I’ll definitely check some of these out!

  12. I love the idea of having pets around. Although I know some would disagree, I think that having a cat or dog with you is so much more relaxing. They just are a comfort to be around. I also love the book cafes. Sitting back with a great read while sipping coffee is just heaven to me!

  13. Gone are those days where coffee shops are places to just enjoy the coffee. Maybe are becoming so creative to make their shops belongs to a community. Love these concepts!

  14. While these are pretty unusual and unique, there is no way I would have coffee at a cafe where pets and animals are able to roam freely. Yulk! But interesting!
