Filming is a complex process which requires meticulous planning of the smallest details. Besides the characters, the script and the action, the setting is also vital to the success of a film. Vietnam, because of its various picturesque sceneries, has been chosen for many famous filming projects including Hollywood’s. We would like to provide you with some treasure information on the following movie scene locations found in some of the most well-known films among the Vietnamese people such as Hollywood’s Kong-skull island, Pan, Vietnam’s I saw yellow flowers on green grass, etc.

Kong: Skull Island (2017)

This reboot of the King Kong franchise could not attract more attention: its cast includes well-known actors such as Tom Hiddlestone, Samuel L.Jackson, etc. and the enormous budget of $185 million. The film told the story of a group of scientists and US troops retreating from Vietnam after their 1973 defeat there. The Americans got lost on an unknown island and came up against horrible creatures, including the mighty Kong. Apart from high-quality actors and actresses, another appealing feature of Kong: Skull Island is its setting. Kong: Skull Island was filmed in Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, and Cat Ba Island in Quang Ninh (Northern Vietnam), and Quang Binh (Central Vietnam).

Ha Long Bay & Cat Ba Island

Ha Long Bay, located in the Gulf of Tonkin, consists of 1600 islands and islets formed in various shapes and sizes. Needless to say, Hạ Long Bay has been so popular that it is always the first destination that one can ever think of when deciding to take a trip to Quảng Ninh Province. Recognized twice as one of the world’s heritage sites in 1994 and 2000, Hạ Long Bay until this moment has been preserved and still retains its own unique and natural landscapes that will astonish every single visitor who seeks for true beauty that lies within the most ordinary place.
Van Long lake

About 80km from the capital city of Hanoi, this location takes visitors about 2 hours on motorbike or car to get to. It was not created by Mother Nature but by the process of constructing a dike to prevent the Day River from flooding the area. However, its beauty is still appreciated by visitors and locals alike. With an area of 3500 ha, it is also considered the largest aquatic natural reserve all over the Red River Delta.

Photo via Kong: Skull Island

The site can be accessed from the 1A National highway to Phu Ly, then Gian Khau fork and finally Gia Van commune, Gia Vien ward.

Van Long lake is known for its biodiversity as well as the picturesque scenery. The mountain ranges and caves, together with their reflections on the static water surface, take the visitors’ breath away.

This site is also home to lots of endangered species in Vietnam, including the langur.

Trang An Landscape Complex

Another famous site present in Kong- Skull Island is Trang An, a location of great archeological and cultural significance. The Trang An Landscape Complex’s caves are known to have been inhabited for over 30,000 years by seasonal hunter-gatherers, who adapted to great landscape changes, including those in late Pleistocene and Holocene times. Furthermore, Trang An is famous for its geological properties: having been invaded by sea several times but still is emergent on land. The complex consists of 3 protected areas: Hoa Lư citadel cultural- historical area; Trang An- Tam Coc—Bich Dong Scenic area and Hoa Lư Special- Use Primary Forest.

Photo via Kong: Skull Island

Photo via Kong: Skull Island

Another breathtaking feature of Trang An is the karst tower landscape. The cone-shaped rock towers approximately 200 metres in height make Trang An a unique site. Deep down the cavern system, tourists can take a boat tour for a close view of the grottoes, which were formed through a long process of erosion.

Tam Coc and Bich Dong, situated in Van Lam village, Hoa Lu District, Ninh Binh province. Tam Coc, which means “three caves” in Chinese, have cloud-like stalagmites and stalactites of great geological meaning. They suggest these caves were underwater millions of years ago and gradually emerged from the water surface.

Tu Lan cave system

Consisting of more than 10 caves, Tu Lan cave system was first discovered in the early 1990s. As it has yet to attract as much attention as Sơn Đoòng caves, Tu Lan still retains its natural, intact beauty. This is a perfect location for adventurous travelers, as getting to the cave really means quite a lot of trekking and swimming. Most tours require decent swimming skills from tourists. The journey through the cave system can be split up into 3 days. Day 1 is mainly about warming up, you won’t need too spend much energy except for walking through a wood, exploring the first cave and trekking the Lom Com and Xoai mountains. Day 2 is much more challenging as tourists start with Ken cave- the deepest one in Tu Lan system and swim 200 meters against the flow to Kim cave. On day 3, tourists again must go against the flow to Hung Ton cave. The last checkpoint is Bi Mat cave- 15 meters down and only accessible through a ladder. The thrill of climbing down a ladder in such mysterious surroundings is the last checkpoint of your journey.

Photo via Kong: Skull Island

Photo via thanhniennews

Tu Lan cave system is approximately 70 kilometers away from Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh Province) and next to Tan Hoa ethnic village. As it is surrounded by grass and corn fields, you may need instructions from locals our tourist help desks in the area.

Indochina (1992)

The Vietnamese film industry has yet to reach the level of its European counterparts, but our country’s sites have appeared in an Oscar-winning film: “Indochine” by the French director Regis Wargnier. The film tells the story of Eliane Devries, boss of a rubber plantation during her stay in Vietnam with her daughter. A large part of the film took the Imperial City of Huế as its setting.

Hue

Hue, together with its cultural values, has become a household name. Ask any foreigner traveling to Vietnam to list some Vietnamese cities, and there is no way Hue can go missing. Though probably not as well-known as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh city, Hue has always been among the most recommended places to visit throughout Vietnam.

Photo via Indochina

Photo via Indochina

Hue, once the capital of Vietnam during the Nguyen dynasty, has a rich and diverse culture. From the most ordinary to the most luxurious, every piece of Hue has its own significance. Its food culture is unique: no one who plans to visit Hue would afford to miss out on banh beo, banh nam and other specialties, which are on offer in Dong Ba market, the most crowded and exciting site in the city.

Its ancient buildings and romantic scenery make up an irreplaceable part of Indochine’s setting. Foreign tourists, especially those who have watched this Oscar-winning masterpiece. Let’s check out some of this city’s must-visit sites:

Just as Da Nang has Han River, so Hue owns one of the most beautiful rivers throughout Vietnam. Perfume river got its name from the pleasant scent from the flowers that dropped into the water from upriver orchards. Although its beauty and scent have been somewhat reduced by modernization and an increasing number of boats passing by, it remains one of Vietnam’s most interesting and romantic site where groups of youths gather and couples hang out

Thien Mu Pagoda, located on the northern bank of Perfume River, is another emblem of Vietnam, especially its religious culture. At 4 centuries of age, this building has never lost its significance to locals and tourists alike. Khai Dinh and Tu Duc Mausoleums are other spots of interest for their historical meaning during the Nguyen Dynasty.

Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass (2015)

Aside from famous, classic masterpieces, this list also includes a 100% Vietnamese film: Yellow flowers on green grass, adapted from Nguyen Nhat Anh’s similarly titled novel. The film tells the story of two brothers, Thieu and Tuong, who both have a liking for a young girl in the neighborhood and compete for her affection. Despite the simple setting, this story is an epitome of love, friendship, and brotherhood. This masterpiece by Victor Vũ made its debut at the Cannes film festival in 2015.

Phu Yen

The film was set in Phu Yen, a province in central Vietnam. Bãi Xép, the background for the scenes in which the kids fly their kites, is actually quite an attraction. The beach, approximately 500 meters in length, may not be popular for tourists, but this is a perfect place for childhood memories. The best way to reach Bai Xep is from Tuy Hoa city nearby. The path to Bai Xep is covered in vast rice fields, the iconic image of Vietnam countryside lifestyle. However, its appearance in Yellow flowers on green grass made Bai Xep much more well-known and the high numbers of tourists resulted in the beach’s pollution.

Photo via Yellow Flowers on the Green Grass

Another attraction in Phu Yen is Cu Mong lake. This is a perfect site for boat tours. Water surface remains still most of the time, coupled with the cool breezes, bring a sense of soundness to all people on board. Onshore, tourists can befriend fishermen and listen to their stories about the battles between Quang Trung and Tây Sơn dynasty taking place on the lake that was passed down from generation to generation.

ONE DAY

7:30 AM: Have breakfast. Chopped Cuttle-Fish Rice Sheet is probably an ideal choice for breakfast in Quảng Ninh and if you are staying in Hạ Long City, do not hesitate to try it

8:30 AM: Make a cruise trip through Hạ Long Bay. For most people, their first destination in Quảng Ninh is Hạ Long Bay

9:30 AM: Visit the caves. Usually, during the cruise trip, people will drop in some famous caves such as Đầu Gỗ, Sửng Sốt, go around the caves, climb some stairs, take some pictures and finally return to the boat to keep on the cruise

11:30 PM: Get back to the boat and arrive at an island. At noon, staying on an island is a great choice because not only can you have some time at the beach but you can also have your lunch on the island, relax yourself to get ready for the afternoon. However, some people choose to have lunch on the boat because it is faster and more convenient with an available menu. There are many different islands that you should go to. In my opinion, I suggest Cô Tô Island and Quan Lạn Island

3:30 PM: Go back to the boat and ready to return to your hotel

4:30 PM: Maybe you will want to have some popping pearl yogurt for a light meal before dinner

6:00 PM: Arrive at your hotel, have a rest, take a bath and get ready to hit the street and enjoy your dinner with the most delicious specialties and seafood

7:30 PM: Have dinner. You can choose from a variety of restaurants that I have suggested in the previous post and try as much seafood and specialties as you can

9:00 PM: After the dinner, you can check out Hạ Long night market to enjoy the rest of your evening

10:30 PM: Go back to your hotel and rest yourself

TWO DAYS

The first day: Same as One day in Quang Ninh

The second day:

7:30 AM: Have breakfast

8:30 AM: Get ready to climb Yên Tử Mountain. If your hotel is in the center of Hạ Long City, it will usually take from 30 minutes to 1 hour to get to Yên Tử

12:00 PM: Have lunch. It is probably a good choice if you bring your lunch or some snacks along the way since near the mountain, it is quite hard to find a good restaurant

2:00 PM: Go to Ba Vàng Pagoda. This is a gorgeous pagoda in Quảng Ninh Province. From Yên Tử, it usually takes about an hour to get to the pagoda

4:00 PM: Go back to your hotel and have a rest

6:00 PM: Get on the boat to go to Tuần Châu. You can have dinner on the island also

7:00 PM: Have dinner

8:30 PM: Enjoy some music water in the theater

10:30 PM: Time for some night cuttle fishing

12:00 AM: Get back to the hotel

THREE DAYS

The first day: Same as One day in Quang Ninh

The second day: Same as Two days in Quang Ninh

The third day:

7:30 AM: Have breakfast

8:30 AM: Go to Cửa Vạn Fishing Village

11:30 AM: Have lunch

1:30 PM: Go to Vân Đồn. It is quite far from Cửa Vạn to Vân Đồn so be prepared for a long trip

4:00 PM: From Vân Đồn, go to Bình Liêu. You will surely not be disappointed by what you see here. Take your time and take lots of pictures also

7:30 PM: Get ready to go back home

When the night falls is also the time when everything gets exciting and amazing. Especially in Quảng Ninh, you will definitely feel that night beat from the most crowded and attractive cities in the province.

Hạ Long Night Market

Just like so many other night market areas, Hạ Long night market is a crowded and absolutely intriguing place to make a few rounds of shopping and admire those beautiful local gifts and souvenirs. Located on the bank of beautiful Bãi Cháy, Hạ Long night market is undoubtedly a sight-worthy area if you want to have a self-experience of the local’s night activities. Besides, not only can you walk around the street, relax and gain new experience but you can also bring some interesting gifts home so why not? The night market is exactly that perfect choice for you.

Photo via halong-bay-hotels.com

Address: Hạ Long, Bãi Cháy, Hạ Long City, Quảng Ninh Province

Tuần Châu Water Music Performance

Mentioning of Tuần Châu Island, many people have been so familiar with its night water music performance. As it has been so famous, it is something that you must also try even though you have watched so many of this before. Tuần Châu water music is some kind of a different experience of yours in another country. The performance theater is creatively designed in the shape of a shell bringing the impression of the sea with more than 12 000 seats. From above, the performance area easily reminds of the ancient Colosseum with thousands of armed fighters. Inside, the most magnificent, exciting and breathtaking performances take place with lively sound, lasers, flashes and hundreds of fire tubes controlled by the most modern Projector and Laser Effect systems. Believe me, Tuần Châu Water Music Performance will certainly satisfy you.

Night Cuttle Fishing In Hạ Long

Night fishing for cuttle is probably a new experience for you that you can only get in Hạ Long, Quảng Ninh. The fishing boat sets sail in the night and you will become one of the team’s fishermen and get ready for the night hunt for the most delicious and first class cuttle. For Hạ Long is praised as one of the most famous areas for seafood, you will not be disappointed with what you will catch. After finishing with the catching, you can satisfactorily sit on the boat and enjoy your yummy booty with some beer and chit-chat with your friends the whole night long.

You can enjoy all kinds of entertainment here and believe me, you will never get bored. Sun World is definitely a place you must visit at least once during your stay in Vietnam. Grilled Chopped Cuttle-Fish (Chả Mực)
As you come to Hạ Long, the first thing you should go searching for is probably Grilled Chopped Cuttle-Fish. As to major opinions, Hạ Long grilled chopped cuttle-fish deserves to be put in the list of the best foods in the world. To confirm this great favour that so many table companions give to the dish, I myself have tried this grilled chopped cuttle-fish twice when I came to Hạ Long and truly, it is right. The dish is delicious and extremely juicy as what people rumor. I must say, there was a time when I was addicted to it and for a whole week, my daily menu was grilled chopped cuttle-fish and cuttle-fish only. The dish is simply made with chopped cuttle fairly and fully seasoned, floured and deep fried. The finishing dish is absolutely tempting and irresistible. You can dip each chopped slice in chili, fish sauce or even ketchup for a whole new taste experience.

Grilled Chopped Cuttle-Fish Fermented Rice sheets (Bánh Cuốn Chả Mực)
Not sure if you once heard of rice sheets (ravioli in my word) but I must make it clear that whether you are a picker or a glutton, cuttle-fish ravioli is what you should try for once in your lifetime. As you walk by any morning food stall in Vietnam, one of the first choices is probably ravioli. It is like a kind of pancake or crepe made of rice flour. What makes the difference and its unforgettable impression may be the ingredients. Cat’s ear mushrooms, chopped pork are just the right seasoning and filling. They are then carefully wrapped inside of the ravioli cover and the chopped cuttle-fish with fired onion are added as the final topping that gives the dish the completing perfection and distinguishes it from any other regular kinds of ravioli. The sweet smell and crunch of onion, the tempting juice of cuttle fish and the softness of ravioli are indeed the surprise of flavour in your mouth. Especially, what gives the exciting part is the home-made fish sauce with the taste of hot chili lingering in your mouth. The whole dish is truly the care and each bit of love that the cook wants to bring to their table companions.

Quảng Yên Crustacean (Sam Quảng Yên)
Crustacean, I must say, even if you are a big fan of seafood or not-so-much like it, Quảng Yên crustacean will make you fall in love despite you are an extreme food picker. From the main ingredient is the crustacean, the cook can improvise to deliver different kinds of dishes with a variety of flavours that can surprise as well as please any table companion. You can have crustacean rolling, bitter and sour fried crustacean, steam crustacean, crustacean fried with noodle and so on. Quảng Yên Crustacean is definitely a must-eat dish in your vacation to Quảng Ninh.

Sipunculus Nudus (Sá Sùng)
Sipunculus nudus, yes, with a strange name, this dish might give you a lot of surprise. Sipunculus nudus, at first sight, it looks nothing different from earth worm and I bet that you will not want to eat this anymore if you see the living creatures with your own eyes. However, believe it or not, this is listed as one of the most expensive dishes of the region and of course, there must be something that gives it that high price. The taste, indeed, is much more delicious than its appearance. The common dish is fresh sipunculus nudus fried with garlic. Garlic is just the right spice that stimulates the sweetness of the meat. In addition, they also dried the sipunculus and roast it until the dish has just the yellow brown color. Roasted sipunculus eaten with chilli and lettuce is just the right dish that you should try once in your life despite the price can be a little bit high compared to your planning budget.

“Nodding” Cake (Bánh Gật Gù)
Just by hearing the name, you know that you can hardly say no to this one special dish of cake. “Nodding” in Vietnamese means “gật gù”. As people usually nod their head when they agree or feel something is good, Vietnamese is also the same and they often “gật gù” when they taste a delicious dish. “Nodding” cake is actually another kind of ravioli but made slightly different. When cooking, the cook will usually add some extra rice to the cake to make it thicker and juicier. When eating, all you have to do is dipping the roll in a small bowl of sauce specially made and eaten with pork cooked with brine. The dish is definitely undeniable.

Stomatopoda Noodle (Bún Bề Bề)
Directly caught from the sea, the main ingredient, stomatopoda will surely give you a positive impression as one of the best foods that ever exist on Earth. Sweet cabbage, shrimp, catawissa, fried onion, tomato and chilli are also added as sub-ingredients. The dish offers a wonderful taste of stomatopoda boiled with the irresistible taste of chilli. But of course, what makes the dish different is still the fantastic stomatopoda meat with the most wonderful bouillon of all tastes from sweet, spicy to sour.

Bánh Tài Lồng Ếp
This is a quite strange kind of cake that I have once heard. As I saw it for the first time, I thought this might be some kind of brown jelly with sesame on it. However, it surprises me that how this such ordinary cake can make such a sweet and wonderful flavour. The cake is actually a specialty made by Sán Dìu ethnic in Quảng Ninh province. The main ingredients are mochi, sugar candy and ginger through so many making stages and processes to have this unique appearance and such good taste. The sweet smell of ginger easily attempts you at the first time and the pleasant taste from sugar candy is just the greatest spice.

“Fed Up” Fried Noodle (Bún Xào Ngán)
Do not let its name fool you because once you have tried it, it is hard to deny for a second serving. Actually, “fed up” in Vietnamese is “ngán” and this is in fact a name of a marine animal with the scientific name of Austriella Corrugata. But I have to admit, “fed up” fried noodle sounds way much better than Austriella Corrugata fried noodle, right? About the dish, maybe at first glance, it may not give you much impression of a true specialty in the region. The preparation is actually of the utmost simplicity: the brown color of cat’s ear mushrooms, white of clam meat and a little bit of green from catawissa. But when you try it, I cannot say if you want to stop eating anymore because the sweetness of clams, the tempting smell of fried onions with the juicy flavour of cat’s ear mushrooms and catawissa just make the explosion of flavour in your mouth.

Tiên Yên Hill Chicken (Gà Đồi Tiên Yên)
Not just a normal kind of hill chicken, Tiên Yên actually makes its name for this cannot-be-more-popular hill chicken. At first impression, you may think that this is just another dish of regular chicken but no, just have a bite and Tiên Yên hill chicken will change your mind forever. With Tiên Yên hill chicken, many other dishes from chicken meat can be made but in my point of view, the original boiled Tiên Yên chicken is still maybe the best of the best. The finishing dish gives a fine and tempting preparation with a fat layer of juicy yellow skin and a little bit of refreshing green from lime leaves. The taste is no need to discuss, one taste of a time, impression for a life time. The juice of the meat, the cruch of the skin and the sweet smell from lime leaves will definitely not fail you.

Popping Pearl Yogurt (Sữa Chua Trân Châu)
The name of this dish is maybe not so familiar to some foreign visitors who rarely come to Vietnam but believe it or not, it is irresistible to taste at the second time. I got the chance to try this in one of my trip to Hạ Long, the price is considerably cheap with just the price of a street snack but the flavour is indeed undeniably delicious. Popping pearl yogurt is actually just a kind of sweetened porridge with the most simple recipe that you have ever know that I must say a 2-year-old kid can make it himself. I remembered when I bought it from a street stall, they gave me 3 small packages: one for ice, the second going with a plastic cup carrying yogurt and the last one was a cup of popping pearls. All you have to do is mixing them all together and there you have, a delicious cup of popping pearl yogurt. It may sound like nothing special to you but just imagine one day, you walking in the street under 350C sun heat, this little cup of popping pearl yogurt then might save your day.

Are you ready to warm up for this exciting adventure? If your answer is yes then take a look at this route and see how to get there.

Motorcycle and Car Road Trip

The average distance between Hà Nội and Quảng Ninh is about 220 km. Usually, it will take approximately 4 to 6 hours to travel from place to place depending on your route choice. According to the map, there are 3 routes leading from Hà Nội to Quảng Ninh: the longest is 266 km and takes nearly 6 hours and the shortest is about 187 km and takes about 5 hours.

Highway Hà Nội-Hạ Long Route (187 km): From Hà Nội, take Thanh Trì Bridge and keep going ahead to reach Highway 1 Bắc Ninh-Lạng Sơn. Going straight ahead and there will be a sign pointing to turn right to Phả Lại. After taking the highway 18 Phả Lại-Sao Đỏ, on the way, stop at 559 to pick up some flowers and buy yourself some coconut pies. Then keep going straight, you will reach Đông Triều-Quảng Ninh route and just keep on driving till you get there.

Highway 5B Route (201 km): Get to Vĩnh Tuy Bridge and from there, keep going to reach Highway 5B. Keep going on the highway until you see the crossroads, turn to Highway 10 and keep track of the way. Till you reach the three-way crossroads, turn right at Highway 18, cross the Northern belt, keep going straight and you will be there in no time.

Highway 10 Route: From Hà Nội, take the Expressway 1 until you reach Highway 21, keep going on the road and pass through Thiên Trường Avenue of Nam Định City. From here, keep driving straight and turn at Highway 38. From this highway, keep going and you can easily get to Highway 10. After driving for a while, you will see Highway 18 (the same when you take the Highway 5B), turn right at it and keep going till you reach the destination.

If you want to make it fast, take Highway 5B Route, though it is not the shortest way but the fastest to get to Quảng Ninh. While the first and the third take about 5 hours, this route only takes you about 4 hours both by car and motorcycle.

Bus and Coach
Hạ Long Bay (Vịnh Hạ Long)
Needless to say, Hạ Long Bay has been so popular that it is always the first destination that one can ever think of when deciding to take a trip to Quảng Ninh Province. Recognized twice as one of the world’s heritage sites in 1994 and 2000, Hạ Long Bay until this moment has been preserved and also still remains its own unique and natural landscapes that will astonish every single visitor who seeks for true beauty that lies within the most ordinary place. Proud to own one of the world’s heritages recognized by the UNESCO, we delightedly present you to Hạ Long Bay, an extraordinary mountainous and rocky area lying to the sea with the most spectacular natural stone caves formed by rain and water leakage and wonderful giant natural shaped rock slabs on sea. Hạ Long Bay is particularly famous for its diverse number of 1969 islands with Thiên Cung, Đầu Gỗ and other fantastic colorful limestone and schist caves. Not only has Hạ Long Bay been recognized until present but also dating back to 500 years ago, the great poet Nguyễn Trãi once praised Hạ Long Bay as “the stone wonder standing by the sky” in one of his literature piece called Lộ Nhập Vân Đồn. I remember that it has been the fourth time I come to Hạ Long Bay but I will never forget that feeling of sitting in a ferry, floating all the way on the sea and contemplated the beautiful stone slabs with their sorrow strangely float in the air. I think what I got was more like soul easing than just beauty enjoying.

Bãi Cháy
Bãi Cháy is a ward situated in Hạ Long City. The ward is famous for a beautiful beach named after that of the ward. Although it is an artificial beach, it is still in favour of many tourists and international friends for its eco-friendliness and unobtrusive beauty. Bãi Cháy back in the day was actually an island with many of those legends and mysterious origins surrounding. Bãi Cháy, word by word translated to English means “the firing field”. Intrinsically, the place owns that name according to a story of the enemies’ boats which were fired and pushed to the shore, burnt all the forest near there and made the whole place on fire. Although, many years have passed by, Bãi Cháy still keeps its original beauty with a range of hills lying among green lines of pine trees, magnificent villas and old houses. What will even amaze you more is the gorgeous Bãi Cháy Bridge that from the top, you will see the whole island lying still and charmingly. Coming to Bãi Cháy, not only can you have the chance to soak in the cozy sea water but you can also get entertained by different kinds of arts such as puppet show and traditional music concert.

Yên Tử Mountain (Núi Yên Tử)
Also known as Yên Tử Sơn in Chinese calling, Yên Tử Mountain is regarded as the ancestral land of Vietnamese Buddhism. Back in the day, Yên Tử was also called Bạch Vân Sơn (White Cloud Mountain) for the beautiful cloud coverage around the mount. Owning the height of 1068 meters, Yên Tử is a true challenge to any climber since it will take approximately 6 hours to continuously climb to the mount, and cross all the stone stairs and forests. If you simply want to sightsee, you should avoid going to Yên Tử on festival days from 10th January in Moon calendar since it will be like a mess with packs of people hustling in the midst of a press to get to the pagodas. Other special features of Yên Tử Mountain are Giải Oan Pagoda and Giải Oan Stream (Exonerative Pagoda and Stream) with a very beautiful bridge built by Trần Nhân Tông Emperor to lift the curse for thousands of imperial maids and concubines who died for him. In the area, beside the statue worshipping Trần Nhân Tông, two others worshipping Pháp Loa and Huyền Quang Zen Buddhist are also situated. Cô Tô Island (Đảo Cô Tô)
Enchanting and ecological, Cô Tô is one of the most beautiful islands in Quảng Ninh. It has even been written in many literature pieces of famous authors and even been chosen as the title of some. Typically, there is “Cô Tô” of the most famous and the greatest modern author of all-Nguyễn Tuân written about his long-day experience on Cô Tô Island. I remember, he once wrote: “ I dim my eyes to the newest fresh oysters, the sea, the sky, the blurry sand line of Cô Tô mother island and the sand field of the small one visually and lively carved with lines of houses and the silhouette of trees from the fishing hamlet. From the Eastern skyline, the grey clouds dangle to the wave as an angry goddess is drying her hair on a muddy soapberry water brass. Then I stand and feel the coldness from the smell of wind that seems to be leading the rain to this place blows.” Cô Tô is also famous for the Cô Tô lighthouse built in late 19th century and from the lighthouse, you can see the whole view of Cô Tô. In the south, you can drop by Cầu Mỵ stone field and take some beautiful pictures there. There are also many famous places in the island such as Hồng Vàn, Van Chải beaches and the romantic love path with the dreamy lines of poplar surrounding.

Quan Lạn Island (Đảo Quan Lạn)
Quan Lạn is a beautiful island in Quảng Ninh, and it is famous for its gorgeous wilderness as well as peaceful natural beauties. Quan Lạn is particularly a place for photography. Especially in wedding season of the year, Quan Lạn is always chosen as the stop of couples for its own romantic scenery. Beaches at Quan Lạn are also very beautiful and silent, not as crowded as Sầm Sơn and the others. If you want to enjoy a quiet noon on the beach, check out Quan Lạn, Sơn Hào and Minh Châu. I promise that you will not be disappointed. In addition, Ngọc Vừng is the mini island in Quan Lạn that you should also know. Ngọc Vừng is beautiful from the trees to the sand and especially from up high, it is not at all different from a silky and charming scaft floating on the sea. There are also very beautiful places that you should discover yourself such as Quan Lạn communal house and Trần Khánh Dư Shrine.

Cái Chiên Island (Đảo Cái Chiên)
Cái Chiên is absolutely a beauty. Though not as ecologic as Cô Tô but the island’s wilderness is what attracts the visitors. The island is surrounded by the lush greenery of hills and forest. Everything just seems to have not been exploited and discovered by human. With the land area of 2500 hectares, Cái Chiên owns one of the most wonderful beaches with 2 km of coast line, white sand and pure water. Although lying next to the sea, Cái Chiên Island is still very famous with homestay services emerging in the island center and small seashores such as Cái Chiên and Đầu Rồng. However, if you are too familiar with homestay, you can try out sea camping for a true road-trip experience. From the homestay area, you can also make a motorbike rental to drive to Đuôi Rồng area. From here, you can walk yourself on the beautiful rock fields and cast your eyes upon the wildest and most breathtaking natural scene.

Cửa Vạn Fishing Village (Làng Chài Cửa Vạn)
I guess it must be always thrilling to actually experience the life of a fisherman. If you are one of those who craves for the unusualness and unfamiliarity, you should go to Cửa Vạn Fishing Village to get that experience of a lifetime. Surrounded by the silent sea area and the rocky mountain, Cửa Vạn easily catches your attention at the very first glimpse with its strangely peaceful atmosphere of a fishing village that is supposed to be crowded. Cửa Vạn is actually originated from two other fishing villages which are Giang Võng and Trúc Võng. Coming to Cửa Vạn, you can experience the life of a true fisherman, setting sail in the blurry night and coming back in the morning with a basket full of fresh fish. If you are lucky to come here on festival time, you can get the chance to here the villagers sing “ghẹo” and “đường” (two kinds of traditional singing in Quảng Ninh). Furthermore, you can make a small trip to Tiên Ông Cave and Vân Đồn Lake to discover more beauties of Cửa Vạn.

Bình Liêu
Speaking of Bình Liêu, maybe not so many will notice of this gorgeous place but if you are a backpacker, this is a must-know destination. Believe me, Bình Liêu is beautiful even in every single step that you take. Owning the appearance of a mountainous area, Bình Liêu is wild and natural from the trees and flowers to its scene. With the most charming road-trip paths, Bình Liêu easily attracts and enchants every backpacker who set foot to the place. Though being compared as a mini Sapa land, Bình Liêu is still wild and beautiful in its own way with the dreamy lines of white reed waving in the wind, the bumpy mountainous path, the yellow terrace rice field and Trẩu flowers gorgeously bloom in March and April. Especially, the bumpy mountainous path is also called “Dinosaur back” by the locals as a little reminder of its own unique as well as the hardships. As entering deeply in the center, you will encounter the local village with simple houses, green gardens, and the cooling stream. Therefore, take you time here and also take a lot of pictures as a little achievement of your “Dinosaur back” conquer.

Ba Vàng Pagoda (Chùa Ba Vàng)
Also known as Bảo Quang Tự, Ba Vàng Pagoda lies perched way up high the mount of a mountain with the height of 340 meters in the West of Uông Bí City. Until present, no clue there is about when the pagoda was formed but we know exactly that Ba Vàng is definitely where you should come. Owning the traditional design and architecture, Ba Vàng is just like a house of the heaven, and appears then hides in layers of floppy white clouds. In front is Bạch Đằng River, a little bit far away is Hải Phòng and at the skyline is the crowded Đồ Sơn Beach. It is like you can see the whole world from here. In my imagination, Ba Vàng is like a beautiful palace hidden among the trees. It is especially gorgeous at night when all the lights are lit up and the place is dyed in the warming and imperial golden of reminiscence.
