Amusement parks are a fun escape from the rat race – giant crowds, long queues for any games and rides and absurdly priced concessions. Oh, who am I kidding? Still, a trip to any amusement park is a fun day out for a family, a couple or anyone looking for a little excitement. There is a plethora of parks in Saigon, and here are the best ones I would recommend.

1. Dam Sen Amusement Park

Long heralded as the best amusement park in Saigon, Dam Sen (Đầm Sen) is filled to the brim with fun games, arcades, and rides (and people too). With a large number of attractions, including an ice castle, an aquarium, and multiple roller coasters, it is guaranteed to be an exciting day out for anyone. There are also concerts, comedy shows and a variety of shows hosted here frequently, so do check out their website for any upcoming events.

Address: 3 Hoa Binh Str., Ward 3, District 11
Opening hours: Mon-Fri 7:30AM – 6:00PM, Sat-Sun 7:30AM – 9:00PM
Website: http://www.damsenpark.com.vn/

Photo via upload.wikimedia.org

2. Dam Sen Water Park

Yes, technically part of the same complex, but there is so much to do at Dam Sen Water Park that it will be unfair to lump it in with the amusement, or “dry” park as the Vietnamese call it. Exciting attractions such as the Kamikaze, a high-speed 19-meter tall slide, or the Tornado, an 119-meter-long river course that offers a thrilling experience are just some of the high-adrenaline games available here. Dam Sen Water Park is definitely worth your money, especially if you’re an adrenaline junkie, or someone bored of the standard amusement park fare.

3. Suoi Tien Theme Park

About 20 kilometers away from the city, Suoi Tien Theme Park is extremely popular. Whether it is a weekday or weekend, it is always jam-packed – a true testament to the popularity of the park. Over 70 unique games, rides, and attractions, some of which include quad bike riding, rock climbing, bungee jumping as well as a number of thrill rides and a kid zone, as well as Tien Dong Beach – an enormous artificial beach that makes Suoi Tien a destination fit for the whole family.

4. Tho Trang Amusement Park

Tho Trang is primarily aimed at kids, but that does not stop anyone from having fun here. With loads of games and arcades – including favorites such as darts, BB guns, claw machines and many others – Tho Trang is as nostalgic as it gets. Oh, and did I also mention that it has perhaps the best food court of any amusement park in Saigon? Dig in a plate of banh beo, a decadent smoothie, some delicious ice cream or just a warm cup of coffee. It is absolutely wonderful, and also somehow really romantic for couples

Address: 875 Cach Mang Thang Tam Str., Ward 15, District 10

Designed for children 15 and under, KizCiti is best described as a job fair on steroids. Here, kids get to live their fantasies and try their hand at multiple jobs, such as being a policeman, firefighter, fashion model, etc. or as a worker at a dairy factory, water bottling plant or bakery (Crippling workplace-related stress not included). It is a popular destination for children of all ages, so if you have a child, a nephew or niece, or simply look to host a fun day out for some children, definitely consider KizCiti.

7. SnowTown

For those of you craving some snow, SnowTown is, well, a town full of snow. It is a new amusement park based in District 2, with a vintage European design. The main draw here is snow, obviously – in such a humid city like Saigon, any sort of coolness is welcomed. Some fun winter activities such as skiing or snowball fights are available, and there is also a crafts center where kids can learn to make fun toys from recycled materials. It is a nifty little escape from the heat of the city.

8. Thao Cam Vien

Thao Cam Vien – the Saigon Botanical Gardens, or simply The Zoo – Sở Thú as generations of inhabitants have called it, is not an amusement park per se, but it’s amusing enough to claim a spot on this list. Built in 1864 by French colonialists, the Gardens have now amassed over 590 animals belonging to 125 different species, including non-native breeds such as the jaguar, Bengali tiger, or the lemur. There are also over 260 species of flora to be found here, including 23 native orchids and 34 types of bonsai. Popular attractions such as the tigers, the elephants – who will gladly eat your sugarcane – and the children’s zoo, with kids (baby goats) and lambs (baby sheep) running around are must-stops for anyone. Popular with children and adults alike, the Botanical Gardens are a great way to spend a lazy afternoon, even if you are not remotely interested in botany or zoology.
